I've made a note of every phone call. I have kept
these as I was told it could be important if I decide to take further
legal action:
 When
the payment was not received by the 27th May, I asked in person
to be paid, and was told my payment had been missed out by mistake
and would take place later in the day. I asked again at the end
of the day, and was told it would take place the following day.
I called on the 28th May and was told Mark Granger was out of the
office and would return my call. He did not. I called back a couple
of times in the following days - and was continually unable to talk
to Mr Granger.
I asked again in person on the 10th June why I had not received
the payment, and was told it had been missed out again and that
I would receive a cheque at the end of the day or the following
day. At the end of the day I was told Mark was too busy to write
out my cheque, but that I would be paid the following day.
On the 11th June I was told that they would merge the May and June
payments and pay them by cheque on the 13th June (my last day).
I told them this was unacceptable, but despite my requests I was
told that it was non-negotiable.
On the 13th June I was told that I would not be paid immediately
due to "very temporary cash flow problems" and that I
would have to wait two more weeks to be paid, and that I would be
paid by bank transfer. Mark Granger said he would call at the end
of the month to confirm the transfer had taken place. He did not
call - and he didn't return my calls.
When I called the company on the 10th July I was told by his sister
that the Managing director and sole director, Mark Granger, was
away on holiday in Thailand for three weeks (I later came to learn
that he paid for a friend of his to go with him to Thailand. I wonder
where he got the money to do that with?) but would be back in a
couple of weeks, and that I should not call him immediately on his
return, as he would be busy. Nobody else was prepared to talk to
me about the matter, but I was assured that he would call me as
soon as possible
He didn't call, nor did anyone else from the Peatling Training.
I called Mark Granger on 29th July and was told I would be paid
on the 31st July.
I called twice on the 31st July: the first time
I was told he was in the office but was too busy to talk to me,
but that he would call be back soon. I called again in the late
afternoon, and was told Mark Granger was no longer in the office.
He did not return my calls.
My solicitor called the company on my behalf on Thursday 1st August,
and explained to Stuart (Mark's assistant) that we would issue proceedings
if payment was not received.
Mark Granger called that evening and told me the
payment of salary (but not holiday pay or expenses) had been transferred
the previous day on 31st July. He went on to say that he considered
it impossible for me to spend the payment for expenses as well as
salary in the same weekend, and that I had no reason to complain
as he would transfer the remainder on the 5th August. I told him
I had expected to have been paid all outstanding monies, and he
repeated that he would transfer the remainder on the 5th August.
