Excellent and moving account. I emphathise with so much of it because I am a teacher, fortunately in a fairly tolerant school. I, myself, only came out 3 years ago at the advanced age of 46. Everybody has been very accepting and by acquiring new gay f iends, I doubled the number of good friends. I thought the water would be freezing but it's quite warm really. You are to be congratulated on your excellent site! Good wishes John

hello....just wanted to say ~HUG~ I am so proud of you for posting your story. My best friend came out to me 3 years ago that he is gay....I was the first person he had told and at the time he was still not even sure if he was...he said he was only "thin ing" that he might be. Anyways...6 months later he finally came to terms that he is gay. I love him with all my heart and wouldn't trade him for anything. I hope others out there see that if there best friends can't except them for who they really are, then they obviously aren't really a best friend. ~hugs~...god bless....take care of you...Robin

Lordy! Lordy! Lordy! The times, they are a changin'. When last I checked, you were a chaste and pureyoung man...well, maybe not so chaste and maybe not so pure. It has been quite a few months since last I read your diary. It seems that you have kept yours lf quite busy. Trust me, I am not passing judgement...Been there, done that...Christ! I'm still doing that. It is just fascinating to see the change in you as a person. So often, one finds people who are stagnant and boring. Dull and lifeless. You are non of the above. You exude energy, fire, and life. Movement and change are good things and help us to grow as people. You have grown so much in such a short period of time; have moved forward as a person, and yet, still maintain some of your innocence and c rtainly your charm. My only cautionary word is to be careful. Although I know you only from what you have written, I would hate to see any harm come to you. You are too precious to the rest of us. Maybe sometime when I decide to wander down from the wilderness of Norfolk, we can meet for a drink and exchange war stories (your 'cannon to the left of me, cannon to the right' jacuzzi story was hysterical). Until then, keep fighting the good fight and e who you want to be, not who others preceive you to be. Take care, John

It's been quite a while since I've been to your page. I'd lost the URL. I just got a bulk mailing, and I thought "wow, I'd better check that out!" The site's improved a lot, I really like it. I just started my own webpage myself (it's not anywhere nea as cool as yours). I'm so glad you decided to keep writing the diary. It really does help people. I'm still not out completely myself (only to a few select people) and it's encouraging to see your site. It reminds me that I'm not a freak, and other p ople stress out too. Hang in there P, you'll find the right guy eventually. Who knows, maybe the "well-endowed" dude will be the one. Someday, when I figure out my own weird situation, I'll write it all on my site. Have a Happy Day! Yeffy

Alot of my experiences with coming out to myself, friends, and family are pretty similiar to yours. I came out really late at the age of 25. I am now 27. I truly regret that I didn't have the role models or support that alot of young people have now. know that I would have accepted who I am alot sooner. I spent 7 years in the Navy. I came out a year and a half before I got out, because I got tired of feeling like a criminal waiting to get caught. I was out to many of my friends and family. Many o my friends were in the military and were ok with my being gay. I know that my coming out to them was a good thing because they stood up for gays when fellow military members made anti-gay comments or jokes. I now live in Seattle and have a boyfriend wh se hand I hold everywhere we go. We do get looks and comments, butt we just smile and continue walking. Anyway, if you want to talk some more, you can email me. By the way, great webpage!!

Hiya, nice to see your new site, but I still prefer the old one's welcome page design..Just a few feedback for your survey..instead of 100% gay, how do you think about to have another variety as tend to be gay? Moreover, to feel in love is a very emotio al thing...it can happen just in a sudden or after a period of time and learn to love the person, yes I did experience both... Nice to view your diary too! You were more courageous in your teens than I am at 31. I'm still struggling with my feelings - and I found your page a big help. I understand what you mean about looking for positive gay role models. My [male] boss at work tried to assault me sexually 3 or 4 years ago and threatened to fire me if I didn't play along. I wasn't out and in face wasn't even dealing with thoughts of bei g gay but the whole experience fucked me up. I was new to the area and had no friends and felt very alone. I'd been to the guys house [he was training me up at the time and he'd had other trainees there] and met his wife [also a man]. When I look at the life he had made for himself - letching after young men well into his 60's, holding underwear parties for kids no more than 16 or 17, the only gay role model i've had contact with is possibly the worst type. I want a good life and I want to be close with another guy but I couldn't make for myself the repellant life he'd constructed. So pages like yours help far more than you know. I know I was only supposed to sign the guestbook but I appear to have gone a little too long. I hope others checking the messages realise that there's a lot of us out there. Cheers. Jack

Oh, I don't mean that your and mine were the same since I came out MUCH MUCH later than you did, but the feelings, the fears, the par noia. What can I say? I know what it takes to come out and I still admire people who do! The web page is just so you can get an idea of who I am. I need to update it and include all my "out" info. Unfortunately, life in the real world is pretty exciting a d taking time to update a web page seems to be last on my list these days. Take care. If you have a moment do drop me a line.

I am not gay. I am, in fact, a young american woman. Yet your story is deeply inspiring to me. Not even on a gay coming-out story level, but on a basic emotional level. You are an amazing person. I wish I had your courage to stand up for something I belie ed in. You faced up to much opposition and almost, humilation, but I am very glad that, after the horrendous struggle you must have gone through, that you became such a funny, interesting, peaceful man. I admire you and wish you the best success in everyt ing you do. And I hope someday you put your excellent writing skills to use in newspaper, magazines, or novels, whether they be gay-based or not. Hi P! FINALLY !!! I've just got to read your coming out story - having been trying over & over again to be able to but with not much success.[ I sent you Email yesterday evening - Monday 26th july - telling you of the problems i'd been having trying to read your story. I also told you a little of my story & that i now @ 35 felt like being openly gay but was not exactly sure what that meant. ] Welll boy was it worth the wait...!!!! I've just finished reading it - i'm sitting here in tears..your story is fantastic- I laughed , i cried , i laughed ,i cried some more & i finally cheered [inside-not out loud although i wanted to.!!] as you "triumphed" over the homophobes reactions & treatment of you & Andy.....I coulld feel the emotion, the joy, dare i say relief when Andy was on stage being applauded. Great stuff !! -What a movie that scene alone would make..! [ Fingers crossed for P-THE MOVIE ! ] chuckle chuckle!! I never realised that there were pages like this on the net. [I've only been connected since July 2nd.] of which , more later.! It was only on Sunday 25th July @ around 6am i ,by chance, fate, callit what you will, somehow found a page entitled Matts place. I spent all that day, pausing only because my Gran called me for lunch, linking from one cute guy to the next.I found your link @ Jon Online - i sent him a question & he was good enough to reply to me the same day!! What a guy! His viewpoint really helped me out. In a way there is a similarity here - you callenged the homophobia that exists in society, particularky in a schhol environment, & i feel it is time to challenge the way - & i'll be blunt - FAT gay men are treated within the gay community - The cult of the "Adonis" or the Adam Rickitt six pac look or, as you experienced ,the waif like look is so prevalent. We are hounded,no i don't think that is to strong a word, int chubby chasing cliques who cannot have even the most passing relationship with the "Beautiful People." I hope that doesn't come over as bitter & twisted because i don't mean it to but my size has haunted me all my life. I was always a fat kid & that added to my overwhelming shyness & insecurity Plus the facts of me being aware that i wasn't " like other boys " & having the rumoumongers make me their prime suspect in the "he must be gay "stakes, meant i was bullied on many different levela @ once - for being fat,for being quiet & shy,for being from a "broken home"[how i hate that term!],for not having all the latest fashionable clothes a.because we couldn't afford them - i have 3 younger sisters as well -or b. even if we had the money nothing fashionable would fit me because i was fat., & most hurtful of all the homophobia - as the say "the truth hurts" & by god did it hurt.! I'm still paying the price today. The bullying, the stress of coping with my sexuality, the rejection i felt from my family[i was put into care by my "mother" who virtually washed her hands of me saying she couldn't cope[she didn't know i was gay as far as i know.] - gave me what was then called a nervous breakdown @ around 13/14 yrs. old. I suffereed ever worsening depressive episodes until 5/6 yrs. ago had to get help. I was eventually diagnosed as Manic Depressive & have been hospitalised twice - the last time bout 4yrs ago. The last spell was under section of the mental health act for a very bad attempt @ ending my life. I am on Lithium to stabilize my violent mood swings & Faverin for my depression. Things are beginning to feel good again.I've made efforts to be more self reliant again- asking to be allowed to do without my cpn(community psychiatric nures) & support worker. i'm slowly getting my life back on track laregly due to the effect of pages such as yours.Thank You I've just looked over the above & i'm sorry if it's a bit disjointed & all over the place but i've just realised this is the first time i've written any of my life down before!!! See what a good influence you are [grin] ! Please Email me.

I wish I had the time to read all your story. Maybe not quite a best seller but certainly a very interesting and insightful view of growing up gay in modern britain. Although 25 years after my own experiences the basic thoughts and view of loneliness, rej ction and fear never seem to change. Will the world ever allow us to grow up "naturally". I have a dream, like Martin Luther-King's that one day all gay people will be viewed as just people and coming out will be unnecessary because no one will ever dare o assume that everyone is straight. Love your page, loved your insight, and loved your pictures. Could vene get to love you too on a spirituual basis. email e if you wish I would like to know more Peter

For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment; if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of ri hteousness, and seven others; if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the filthy lives of awless men (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard) - if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue godly men from trials and to hold the unrighteous for the da of judgment, while continuing their punishment. This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the sinful nature and despise authority.

I read your coming out diary in full while taking a break to eat lunch at work today. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and was deeply impressed by your fortitude and courageous sense of self. Congratulations to you. I only regret on reading it that I didn't ha e your same courage as a teenager, but rather agonized over coming out until well into my twenties. It does seem that it is getting somewhat easier for young people to be open about their sexuality, thanks in part to the steps men and women like you have taken. Liked the coming out story but more doubtful about your diary - I wonder why you feel you need to tell us these things - especially details of your sex life? Is it a celebration of a gay life? Or do you want to be sure everyone will love you even if they now what you're up to? The ones who matter will anyway. But hey - you're a good guy! Love yourself Rod

Your coming out story really reminded me of my own situation. I am now 35 and came out when I was 18 and had just left college but I had to endure comments whilst at college about being gay but not really realising it myself so I can really identify with our situation. I don't really want to start a communication but your diary is fun. I guess it is because I am English-speaking and a foreigner who was also partly educated in England, that I find your style and approach culturally easy rather than the brash American st ff. I guess it also reflects that even though there are relationships, sexual desire is pretty promiscuous. Keep enjoying yourself in the diaries.
