28th March 1998 - Australia, mum in Tokyo

Dear X,

I've just got back from my fab trip..... It's amazing how tiring being on holiday can be. Right now I'm with my mother in Tokyo, showing her around for a week.

I started off in Sydney for the lesbian and gay Mardi Gras. I stayed with my friend Leon for the first few days (thanks Leon!). It was a lot of fun, with around 800,000 people at the carnival. The dance party which followed was just excellent. So many men in one place. I would have picked up, but the trouble was, every time I chose my target, a better one came along from another direction. So basically I wasn't able to concentrate on any one person for long enough (I've never been any good at the concentrating thing people tell me to do.).. which is actually a pretty fun feeling. It was a little surreal being surrounded by masses of beautiful-beautiful people... What a great way to start a holiday.

My brother and parents arrived shortly afterwards, and I spent the week taking them around the places I liked, and the shops which had something I wanted. (I'd had 4 days to figure out what I wanted them to buy for me before they arrived). Best of all, they didn't realise what I was up to, and were so pleased with the ever-so-well-planned tour I had done, that they spontaneously offered to buy the jeans/shoes/top I happened to be looking at. Sexy P is also a Naughty P. but then I suppose you already knew that.

After Sydney we were off to Uluru (which despite sounding like a internet term, is actually the Aborigine term for Ayres Rock). It was HOT there. 40 degrees (112 degrees in imperial) in the shade first thing in the morning. With that in mind, when they said that the Aborigines didn't like people climbing the rock, I was the first to say I would respect their feelings and not climb it. What an absurd thought, climbing a rock in full sunlight in such heat. Thanks but no thanks, and what's more, there wasn't even an air-conditioned lift. As if!!

Next we went to Lizard Island to dive on the barrier reef. It was breath taking (which at first might seem problematic, considering we were diving, but was actually really good). I even did a bit of water-skiing, but my shoulder still hurt a bit from the cart-wheel trick I did when snow boarding last month, so I didn't want to do it for more than one morning. I really enjoyed myself, and it was a fab holiday.

I've only got 10 days left until classes start again :-( but I know I'm not in a position to complain. I'm a very happy bunny. My mother will leave in a few days, so I've got to go and decide where to take her..

Anyway, hope all is well, take care,

love
